What type of lung cancer did Dana Reeve have?
There are only a few different types of lung cancer but anyone can contract them, smoking will increase the chances but not smoking will not save you from getting lung cancer.
For some reason the details about Dana Reeve’s type of lung cancer has not been released, so instead of answering the question directly I’ll outline the different types of lung cancer.
There is Primary and Secondary lung cancer. Primary lung cancer is cancer that started in the lungs, and Secondary lung cancer is cancer that spread to the lungs from somewhere else.
Primary lunch cancer includes small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. There is also something called mesothelioma which is a rare type of cancer that can be caused by exposure to asbestos and affects the pleura, which covers the lungs.
Twenty percent of lung cancer is small cell lung cancer, and it is called small cell because the cancer cells are small cells. This type of lung cancer is usually caused by smoking.
Non-small cell lung cancer is further divided into three types: squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, and large cell carcinoma. It is not always easy to tell which type a person may have as if the cancer is underdeveloped it is undifferentiated (not possible to tell). The treatments are the same however.
Squamous cell cancer is the most common type of lung cancer. It develops near the centre of the lung, near a main airway, in the cells that line the airways. This is another type of cancer that is due to smoking.
Adenocarcinoma is also develops in the cells that line airways, but it develops from a type of cell the produces phlegm, or mucus.
Large cell carcinoma is large under a microscope and will grow very quickly.
There are many types of cancer that can cause secondary cancer, from breast to bowl cancer.
