What are the Wicked Witch’s flying monkeys chanting in “The Wizard of Oz” ?
Unlike the book the flying monkeys are intelligent enough to take orders, but not enough to actually speak. They still make noise it’s true, I went and watched the clip even to see. They kind of make a high pitched cooing sound. Technically it is just a sound, there are no words to make out or decipher.
I do suspect however, that the noise the monkeys are making is supposed to be either a rally call (calling all monkeys, descend on Dorothy) or they’re just making regular monkey noises. Of course the film makers probably didn’t use real monkeys to make the noises and just found the closest thing they could, which is why it doesn’t really sound like monkeys at all, certainly not flying monkeys anyway.
These little guys have scared a number of small children over the years and managed to rank 94th in this site’s top 100 monsters.
