There’s only sure way I know of to prevent your dog from eating his own poo is to remove the poo from the ground before your dog has a chance to eat it. You can of course discipline your dog to not eat the poo but negative reinforcement is out this season.
The smell receptors and taste receptors are different for dogs than they are for us. Smell is used as a form of communication for many animals. I’m sure you’re seen your dog smell another dogs butt, well they’re just getting to know each other. As a result they do not find the smell as offensive as we do. To the dog eating poo is normal.
