The movie Stand By Me was titled Stand By Me after the song, ‘Stand By Me’, by Ben E. King.  The novella the movie is based on is called ‘The Body’, and that was written by Stephen King.

The movie opens with the main character, Gordie Lachance, sitting in his car as an adult, reminiscing.  The movie couldn’t open with any song other than ‘Stand By Me’, but they didn’t want to use the original either.  The compromise was getting Jerry Leiber, who is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to write a classical version of the song.  This classical version of ‘Stand By Me’ is the music that plays in the very opening scene of the movie.
