I’m on birth control pills and I’d like to know if I can skip my period for my vacation by skipping the sugar pills?

Birth control pills come in 21 pill sets and 28 days sets.  The two are identical, the extra 7 pills in the 28 pill set are sugar pills and only exist to act as a reminder as to when the next months set should be started.   So I’ll first mention is always ok to skip the sugar pills, unless you’re forgetful.

If you not only skip the sugar pills but immediately begin taking the next months pills then you will not have a period that month.  Really you just can’t have your period when you’re taking birth control pills at all, that’s why there is a seven day gap between months.

It is safe to do this one month at a time, you can safely skip one period every so often.  However, because all women react differently to birth control pills and their effects, you should still consult a doctor.

The women on Survivor do this to avoid potentially embarrassing moments on national television.
