Measurement Information

1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet.
To figure how many yards you need measure the length and width of the area you intend to cover in feet.  Then determine how deep you want the dirt in feet (i.e. 3inches = .25 feet).  The following formula will determine the amount of dirt you need in cubic yards:

L x W x D (in feet) divided by 27

Approximately one yard of black dirt will fit into the back of a full size pick-up truck.

One cubic yard will cover a 10 ft x 10 ft area 3 inches deep.

Full Size Pickup Truck
The bed of a full size standard pickup has dimensions of: 8’ long X 5.33’ wide X 1.5’ high.  When loaded level full, a truck of this size will hold 2.5 cubic yards of material.

Short-bed Pickup Truck
The bed of a standard short-bed pickup has dimensions of: 6’ long X 4.5’ wide X 1.5’ high.  When loaded level full, a truck of this size will hold 1.5 cubic yards of material.
