The bible itself makes no mention of what type of wood the cross Jesus was crucified on was made of.  I’ve heard it was dogwood, pine, olive wood, cedar, cypress, and planetree wood. 

In 1870 Rohault de Fleury tried to document all the pieces of the true cross that people claimed they had in his Memoire sur les instruments de la Passion.  Fleury made this statement: “A microscopic examination of the fragments of the Cross, scattered through the world in the form of relics, reveals the fact that is was made from a pine tree.
