Resveratrol is a substance created by a number of plants. It is often sold as a nutritional supplement due to its many beneficial health effects which include: anti-cancer, anti-viral, neuroprotective, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and life-prolonging effects. Some of these benefits are debatable but it is tough to argue that resveratrol does nothing to improve your health.
One of the plants that contains resveratrol is red grapes, the skin to be specific, this goes a long way to proving the benefits of resveratrol as the French are widely known for their love of red wine and southern France has a very low heart disease rate, even though they have a high intake of saturated fats. If you’re going to start drinking wine to avoid health problems be sure to drink red wine as red wine is fermented with the skins and white wine without.
Really it makes sense too, resveratrol is produced by plants as an antifungal chemical. It is found in red grapes, peanuts, blueberries, among others. If it can prevent the growth of fungus on these plants why won’t it help kill bacteria and other undesirables in the human body?
Resveratrol has been proven to extend the life of yeast, worms, fruit flies, and it also extended the maximum life span of a short lived fish (Nothobranchius furzeri) by 59%. That is a massive life extension.
If you’re going to take resveratrol, either in supplement form, or alcoholic form, it is worthy to note that it should be taken on an empty stomach; the digestive acids evidently kill it before it has a chance to do any good.
Don't rush to get your resveratrol.
