Do eastern medicines (such as herbal remedies) work, and if they do, why haven't western doctors looked into it?

Author: ctpb

Some herbal remedies do work for certain things.  Some dances will work on certain things (psychologically anyway), as well as any other home-type remedy.  The key word here is some, these methods will work some of the time, on certain ailments they will work none of the time.  If you have a cold, or minor aliment, some herbal draughts will clean your head up and speed the healing process up, same with minor cuts and abrasions even burns, mixing some green leaf with mud and sticking it on a wound may very well help the healing process, will it help as much as a band aid, or antibiotics in severe cases?  No.

Eastern medicine has been handed down from generation to generation for millennia; people are loyal to them because they've used them for so long.  Western medicine is newer and the people from the western world typically do not have any old age methods, they all use new medicine.  Since this medicine works much, much better than western medicine why would they ever switch?

I will even allow for the possibility that some specific natural remedies may work better than new age medicine.  Perhaps the medical properties of a certain plant raw are better than whatever chemical a pharmacist has developed, or perhaps the pharmacist has developed something that is more harmful than the problem itself.  This last point is not restricted to western medicine, some people can be allergic to certain herbs that can be used as a medicine.  You're always playing the odds with medicine, sometimes it doesn't work and less often it makes things worse, the difference is that if you use western medicine, hospitals, regulated drugs, antibiotics and such your odds of healing are very greatly increased.    That's not to say 'home remedies' won't work, they just won't work as well, if they do happen to work at all.
