Triglycerides are a form of fat in the blood, similar to cholesterol. If you have high Triglycerides you probably have high cholesterol. Studies have shown that that levels above 200mg/dL (milligrams/deciliter), will lead to an increased risk of heart disease. People with diabetes, or people who are obese will probably have high Triglycerides as well. Less than 150 mg/dL is considered normal.
Strokes have also been linked to high levels of blood fat (Triglycerides). People above 200 mg/dL are 30% more likely to have an ischemic stroke. Ischemic strokes are caused by blood clots.
Thankfully Triglycerides are easy to lower with appropriate diet. Cutting down on sugars and grains will usually do the job.
