In order to conceive, you need to have unprotected sexual intercourse around the time of ovulation. In order to know approximately when your ovulation is, determine the length of your cycle. A cycle is the number of days from the first day of your period to the first day of your subsequent period. An 'average' cycle is 28 days.
Once you have determined the length of your cycle, subtract 17 days. For example, if your cycle is 28 days, your fertile period starts on day 11 of your cycle. If your cycle is 35 days, your fertile period starts on day 18 of your cycle. Your fertile period lasts about 5 days, during which you should have sex every day or at least every-other-day, to maximize your chances of conception.
If your cycle is irregular (e.g., 23 days, 31 days and 36 days) it is more difficult to determine when your ovulation is. You may choose to buy an ovulation prediction kit or to have sex frequently during the entire period during which you might be fertile - in the example above, from day 6 through day 24. If you are under 35, give it 12 cycles, after which, if you have still not conceived you should contact an ob/gyn. If you are over 35, wait just 6 months before consulting with an ob/gyn.
Good luck!!!
