It really depends on a few factors. Pregnant women can become diabetic during pregnancy due to a resistance to insulin; this type of diabetes is called gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is more common if the pregnant woman is over 25, overweight, a smoker, or if there is a history of diabetes in their family.
It is speculated that mothers that become diabetic during pregnancy have a greater risk of various birth defects, but it is still up for debate in medical circles. It does tend to cause larger babies than usual. If a pregnant woman does become diabetic during pregnancy there is a good chance the doctor will induce labour a week or two early for the health of both the baby and the mother.
The chances of getting Type 2 diabetes increases in women that have had gestational diabetes.
If you mean that you already have diabetes and you are, or want to get pregnant you should consult your doctor, there will be a number of things you can do to lower any risks.
