Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus is a disease that prevents the kidney from concentrating urine, which can easily lead to dehydration. It is caused by a hormone deficiency, the antidiuretic hormone, or the kidney’s themselves may be insensitive to that hormone and thus ignore its commands.
There are number of different types of Diabetes, Types One and Two, Gestational, Juvenile, and Diabetes Insipidus. Within each of these groups there is a further breakdown. Diabetes has been long known about and breakthroughs have been made for over a thousand years. The history on diabetes is lumped together very well; the first ever case recorded of diabetes was in 1552 B.C., a physician by the name of Hesy-Ra mentions frequent urination as a symptom of one of his patients. Another interesting, although gross, fact is that up till the 11th Century Diabetes was diagnosed by ‘water tasters’, but they weren’t drinking water, they were drinking urine to see if it was sweet.
