How many years of college do I need to become a Psychologist?

Author: ctpb

To become a psychologist you'll need two areas of schooling.   First you'll need a bachelor in which you've majored in psychology, that alone will take three to four years of full time school, depending on which school you attend.  At this point you can use your degree for a variety of occupations; however, if you intend to be a clinical psychologist you'll need a doctoral degree, if you want to be a school psychologist you'll need an education degree, and if you want to be an industrial-organizational psychologist you'll need a masters degree.

If you are starting straight out of high school you're going to need quite a few years to get your education.  There will be shortcuts along the way, but there will be many more things that slow you down.  I would expect to spend at least five years in school before you're able to be a fully licensed psychologist.   You may spend more than five years in school if you choose something like a clinical psychologist.
